The names of all the versions of android are in alphabetical order starting from A for Astro (1.0), B for Bender (1.1), C for Cupcake (1.5), D for Donut (1.6), E for Eclairs (2.0, 2.1), F for froyo (2.2) ( frozen yogurt), G for gingerbread (2.3), H for honeycomb (3.0, 3.1, 3.2), I for Icecream sandwich (4.0), J for Jellybean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3), k for Kitkat (4.4), L for Lollipop (5.0, 5.1), M for Marshmallow (6.0) , N for Nougat (7.0) and O for Oreo (8.0). It can be noticed that all the android version other than Astro and Bender are named after sweat treats.
The co creator of Android Andy Rubin was given the name Android for his love for robots at apple store before joining google. Meaning of Android is a human with robot like appearance. Android refers to male robot and the female looking robot is called as Gynoid.
Android is also used by NASA, there is a device in space that runs on Android version Gingerbread. NASA sent these floating space robots with Nexus S handsets to test their sensors in orbit.
